Synthetic Biology / Molecular Microbiology Internship

CC Bio have an exciting opportunity for a budding synthetic biologist / molecular microbiologist to work in an award-winning systems and synthetic biology-based start-up environment.

About CC Bio:

CC Bio develop precision therapeutics to manipulate the human microbiome, preventing disease before it starts. A key part of this work is a computational-based therapeutic discovery process which is currently conducted manually by the team.

About The Role:

As CC Bio continues to grow, one key objective is to explore how best to harness synthetic and systems biology to deliver our novel therapeutics.

We are looking for a motivated synthetic biologist / molecular microbiologist to join our team and help us do so. The successful candidate will be fostered by CC Bio at our world class laboratories (The Babraham Research Campus) for up to 5 months (Starting October ’19), taking part in a multitude of biotechnology accelerator programmes including Accelerate@Babraham and the P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator, and will benefit from a one-year mentoring scheme with AstraZeneca. This is an excellent opportunity to work as a wet lab scientist within a fast-moving synthetic biology start-up.

Candidate Requirements:

The successful candidate will have postgraduate qualification in synthetic biology or molecular microbiology. The candidate must be comfortable with basic DNA manipulation techniques, including standard DNA assembly methods (Gibson, SLIC etc.), experience with basic molecular biological procedures including PCR, DNA extraction, plasmid preparation, SDS-PAGE, recombinant protein extraction. Additionally, the candidate must have an ability to independently curate literature and design experiments in an autonomous fashion.

The role will be Cambridge based with the possibility of visiting our offices in London. CC Bio are keen for the candidate to become a valued member of the team.

Desirable:

An interest in bioinformatics and systems biology would be desirable and will aid integration of the intern into the CC Bio ecosphere. Experience working in metabolomics, RNA seq and DNA sequence preparation is also desirable but not necessary. The candidate will be working with both aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms: some experience culturing both is desired.
